Saturday, February 24, 2001
On Saturday, 3 more Jeeps joined us. We played around in the morning waiting for everyone to arrive. Scott K. and I were driving up and down the hills adjacent to both sides of the parking area showing off for the quads :-) I let Matt drive up and down a hill, and on the way down he tried to see how twisted up he could get my suspension. He did a really good job as the following photos illustrate.
After the entire group was assembled, we went driving along uncharted trails using the GPS and major trail intersections to guide us. It was a lot of fun. Scott K. tried to drive up a "muddy V thing", which is nothing more than a trail that has been washed out by water. He ended up getting very off camber and laying on his side in the "muddy V thing". Nicholaus saved the day with his winch and got Scott out of the predicament. Scott's XJ was relatively unhurt with the exception of sucking a little power steering fluid into his intake which caused him to billow smoke out of his exhaust.
At the end of the day on Saturday, Scott and I decided not to run any trails on Sunday. Nothing was broken, and it is a 450 mile drive back to Chicago for me, and Scott had to get his dad to the airport. Roy, Roy's brother, Nicholaus, and Roger and Judy all stayed for Sunday.
