Easy and Economical Tyre Deflators
How many people enjoy the chore of deflating their tyres? Personally, I have two damage knees and find it a struggle to spend 5 or 6 minutes squatted
down while you shove a stick up each tyre valve. There has to be an easier way, and there is! The solution came to me by a round about way. I was in the process of making up a tyre inflation gauge the I
could use with the ARB air compressor fitted to the Range Rover. As part of the assembly that I was making up, I needed a clip on valve stem attachment that wouldn't require me to stand there and hold it in place
because it takes about 20 minutes to inflate all 4 tyres with such a small compressor. The solution I found was a little brass assembly that has a spring loaded clip to hold it on the valve, and a 6mm hose tail fitting.

After making up the tyre inflation gauge assembly, I started using it as a deflation devise as well.
This worked great. With the little ball valve open the tyre would deflate and when you want to check the remaining tyre pressure, turn off the valve and read the gauge. The problem was, it
took too long to deflate all 4 tyres. Having purchased a spare valve clip, I decided to try it on its own. This worked extremely well, and I also discovered that the 6mm hose tail was the
exact same diameter as the tyre valve stem, which means that the tyre pressure can be checked during deflation without having to remove the clip!! Tyre "Deflator"

A "deflator", used on a 31x10.5x15 tyre will drop the pressure from 45psi to 15psi in 2 minutes. With two "deflators" working on two tyres at the same time, you can deflate a set of 4
tyres in under 5 minutes depending on the pressures you require. An extremely simply, cost effective and useful tool. Cost you ask? Around NZ$12.00 per pair. |
