Firma-Grip
ground anchor
Ground anchors let you anchor into the soil (or sand) and winch towards that point. I saw the Firma-Grip demonstrated on the East Cape run and was impressed enough to eventually get one. The anchor digs itself in with the pressure from the winch, and if you winch right up to it, the rotation frees the anchor allowing you to extract it easily. It's still a heavy lump of steel to carry around, but it can keep all the other lumps (hi-lift, snig chain etc.) company
Make sure the blade is 3/4 in - in rocky soil dig it in before winching. The anchor may not be able to hold 100% of the load - ease the load by driving - (slowly) I must make a bracket to stop it rattling around in the back of the 90... one day... |
