Mantec Side Bars Avoiding hitting things is always a challenge afford. There are many ways - front-on bash, along-the side scrape, drop sideways into a v-gully, slide sideways into a tree, drive over something too big... Having bent the sills already, I purchased some pre-made sliders from Mantec. They were reasonably straightforward to fit (well if 4 hours of undoing stuck bolts is straightforward) They have proved to be a good investment - they have already been scraped a few times from below - and from the side! As a bonus, they have jacking points built in. I have fitted an adapter to the hi-lift jack and it is now very easy and much safer to jack the vehicle up from the sides. June 2001 - After damaging the quarter panels on Thompsons Track, I decided to extend the sidebars to the front & back of the 90. Acker Bilt of Auckland did some nice work to produce rails that clamped onto the bullbars and extend to the front of the siderails, as well as ones from the rear cross member forward to the rear of the sidebars. The rear protectors I admit I hadn't put enough thought into the design as they seem to catch on any shrub that's going by...eventually they have been discarded to be replaced by... October 2001 - Version 2 of the rear quarter protectors was commissioned. Specifically I wanted more clearance, a rear jacking point, and so I designed some that looked very similar to the sidebars - box section steel with a sleeved jacking point. (Cunningly positioned so that I can get a waterblaster into the rear crossmember which is a real mud trap). Acker Bilt did the welding and I am finally happy with them. |
