Southdown Steering Guard
One of the first things people damage is their steering rods. It's quite easy as they hang down on the front and generally get in the way of rocks, stumps etc. I got a Southdown steering guard. Steel, very solid. Also, helps stop water & mud rushing up and hitting the fan, which the standard Landrover "bar" guard didn't. Some steering guards I have seen hang down very low and wreck the approach angle. Some alloy ones buckle at the first impact. The Southdown guard is solid. Fairly thick steel plate, with welded supports at both ends and a reinforcement in the middle. I've jacked the vehicle using it, so it seems solid enough. It bolted straight on (with a bit of persuasion to get it past the ARB bull bar mounts.)
On the photo above you can see a gap between the bullbar and the steering guard. This lets mud and water rush up into the radiator and winch. A custom piece of steel from Acker Bilt solved the problem - bolting onto the bulbar and the steering guard and filling the gap nicely. Galvanised it in March 2004 as it was a bit tatty.
