The Spinning Torex Head Cure!

What do you do when that Torex bolt starts to spin? You’ve got to get that Torex bolt out! But you can’t drill it out because it spins. You can’t knock it out, you can’t grind it out. It’s just plain stuck!

Well, it’s really quite easy! Now bear with me because this will seem a little silly, but the steps below do work. You’ll have that bolt out in know time at all. Here’s what you do:

  1. Get a :
  1. Propane torch,
  2. Solder
  3. Flux.
  4. One each, 1/16", 3/32", ¼" 5/16", 3/8" Drill bits.
  1. Let some flux drip between the torex head and the hinge/frame.
  2. Heat the torex head with the flux.
  3. Let the solder flow between the head and the hinge.
  4. Now walk away and let the head cool completely.
  5. Drill a pilot hole in head of the bolt, it won’t spin.
  6. Continue to enlarge the hole with a successive increase in drill sizes.
  7. Stop when you get to a 5/16" drill size.
  8. Get a 3/8" drill and use it to remove the head of the torex bolt.
  9. Now you can see the bolt shank.
  10. You can either:
  1. Rethread the shank;
  2. Remove it with an Ez-Out;
  3. Knock it out with a punch.
