President's Notes (October 2001)
by Scott Hatch
I would first like to thank all the members who came out in support of Baystate’s Jeep Rally. It was great time and a beautiful day for September. Although I didn’t agree with the vehicle specific nature of the event, it did benefit both the Association and the victim’s of the World Trade Center and their families. It was also a Baystate event, which is a Jeep specific club and they could have kept the funds for themselves. Instead they gave both the Association and WTC effort close to $1000 each! I thank each member of New England who gave to and supported these efforts.
Elections for the Vice President and Sec/Treasurer are taking place. Tim Mulverhill is running for the VP spot and Steve Nordby is running for the Sec/Treasurer position. No one was interested besides them so both positions are running unopposed. I see this in 2 ways: First the members of the club are satisfied and pleased with the way our officers are running this club. Secondly no one cares enough to step up to the plate and help our sport. These are both great guys doing thankless jobs, but doesn’t anyone think it’s strange that the VP for New England lives in New York? If something were to happen to me Tim would become the President of New England. Strange or just Apathy?

Finally everyone was shocked and horrified by the events that took place on September 11th 2001. It made me proud as an American and Marine to see so many of the members turn out to both the Jeep Rally and club run with Old Glory unfurled showing the cowardly people that struck a blow at our country that we were united. America’s darkest hour is always her finest! I ask all members of our club to show support of our armed services in any way that you can. Tie a yellow ribbon around a tree. Let them know that we care! This is a hard time for them and their families; some of our members are National Guard members, Reservists, or full time active duty. I want to thank you all for your sacrifice and service to our great nation!
