[ Drowned 83 ] [ Chief - SOA ] [ Rollover ]

Big Red is Dead ! :-(

Hi all,

Just a short, sad note to say that the mighty "Chief Outamiway" (aka Big Red) is dead.

Late Friday afternoon, Colette and I were involved in a Rollover as we entered a friends property via a fire trail. It seemed the transfer case chain was slipping too much to maintain momentum as we headed up a steep loose hill and as I braked to put the truck in reverse to back down, the engine stalled and the gear shift handle broke off in my hand. With the truck in neutral and no engine all I could to was brake gently and steer. It didn't work. The truck slid down the hill about 20m before coming to rest a little too far sideways and tipped over. We rolled 21/2 times off the side of the road and crashed through the scrub but came to rest just before the hill got REALLY steep!

Luckily both Colette and I are fine and the dogs are none the wiser. The truck however, gave it's life to save ours and remains down the side of a hill awaiting the NRMAs decision whether to bother pulling it out. All I can say is I'm glad we are all OK....and thank God for the FSJ!
