After Saturday's breakdowns and the fog on the night run, Sunday just has to be a great day, right? So where is everyone?

As it turns out, several had left Saturday afternoon for a long drive home. The heavy downpour during the night had sent Mark (from Ohio) home after his tent and all in it had gotten soaked. (There are limits to even the most hardcore, after all.)

At the appointed meeting time, there were only three vehicles left to ride on Sunday: John (Blackage); Kevin; and Keith and Len. Not a problem! Let's go see what the rain did for the river!

We went across Dry River and saw a little more water from the runoff and started around behind the reservoir to climb whichever mountain that is. The first real obstacle to that path is in the first set of pictures where you hit a stretch of 25-30 yards of loose rocks on a slight uphill followed by a sharp switchback.

As you start up, there is a slight depression which is placed just so as to be able to allow the open/open S-10 sized vehicles to get crossed up and spinning. Several different tries with slightly different lines got us through. Kevin's big pickup with the locker didn't have that problem. There were a number of mudflaps and floormats hanging in the trees. We couldn't tell if they were signs of vehicles beaten by the hill or vehicles that had conquered. They were too high to easily reach and take along as the litter they actually were.

In the switchback, the size of Kevin's truck revealed its limitations as he instituted one of those 43 point turns to get around it while dragging the rear bumper. We continued on to the peak where we parked and walked a little. Continuing on down the other side was quickly blocked by a number of fallen trees. Len walked on up to the real peak and saw that it really dead-ended a few feet higher in elevation than we were. On the way back down, we took the time to notice that the early signs of autumn were here.

We made our way on down the mountain and past the reservoir, stopping to explore various short branches along the way, which all turned out to be just paths to campsites.

We took the opportunity to take a few pictures along the way to help commemorate the day. It shoudl be noted that the water pictures are actually spots where the river runs over the road. One or two more poses and we called it a day. Overall, it had been a great weekend with some great folks having a good time. Can't wait 'til next time!
